BMI factors in a person’s weight and height to gauge total body fat in adults.
The higher the BMI, the greater the risk of developing additional health problems.
Heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure are all linked to being overweight and having a high BMI.
The National Institute of Health determined that people with a BMI between 18.5 and 24 fall within a healthy weight range.
A BMI of 18.5 or less are considered underweight, whereas a BMI of 25 to 29.9 is considered overweight and is believed to carry moderate health risks.
A BMI of 30 or higher is considered obese. Those who fall in this range are also 50% to 150% more susceptible to health risks, which may lead to death.
